What is SAME? Specific Area Message Encoder (SAME) is a special signal now included with weather service broadcasts to pinpoint alert areas within their broadcast range. With regular weather radios, you can be awakened all night by alerts from areas too far away to effect you. With a SAME radio, you can rest easy knowing that if the alert does sound, it’s for your area. False alarms are virtually eliminated.
